Removing Comments

There are many reasons why websites encourage commenting on everything from blog posts to portfolio entries. The idea is to make it easy for visitors to connect with you as well as other members of the community. In theory this is a good idea but in practice comments usually lead to a lot of issues.

Below are the three main reasons we have chosen to disable commenting on our site:

  1. Weak Engagement – Even on popular sites & blogs the vast majority of visitors never leave comments. This defeats the purpose of a place that’s supposed to allow constructive discussions among readers. If very few people read the comments, then very few will leave them.
  2. Anonymous Posting – Whether you want to admit it or not, anonymous posting allows for people to say things they normally wouldn’t. Twitter & Facebook solve this problem by tying things you say & post to your identity.
  3. Moderation – No matter how many visitors you get there is always a need for moderation. From spam comments to vulgar language all posts should go through some sort of moderation.

For these reasons & a hand full of others we feel that removing comments will ultimately lead to a better discussion with our visitors. Want to remove comments from your site? Contact us today

Keep the Conversation Going

If you’d like to comment on any of our blog posts we recommend joining the discussion that’s already happening on Twitter & Facebook. You can also always send us an email at [email protected].
